IDENTIFYING THE SKIN COLOR | Grading Skin tone Lesson

The skin is determined by the amount of melanin in your skin. It is categorized into three; warm, cool and natural. People with dark brown skin are usually the ones who have warm tones while white people have the coolest tones especially if their skin appears pink.

The color of the skin is not entirely uniform across a person’s skin; for example, the skin of the palm and the sole is lighter than other parts of the skin, and this is noticeable in darker skinned people.

 Von Luschan’s Chromatic Scale

According to Von Luschan’s Chromatic Scale, there are 36 different kinds of skin color ranging from the lightest hues to the darkest brown in the whole world.

Fitzpatrick Scale
In Fitzpatrick scale, there are 6 main skin tones. These skin tones are the most common color that you see every day, everywhere.
When grading the skin, you have to first Identify the skin color because not all style/look will fit. There are styles that look good on darker skin than whiter skin and vice versa. Your approach will dictate how a character should appear. The skin should match the whole sequence and it should look very pleasing and real, not fabricated.
